Metal debris from construction site closes Yonge Street for hours

Metal debris prompted police to shut down a stretch of Yonge Street downtown for several hours overnight Friday.

The main thoroughfare was closed between Queen and Shuter streets around 4 a.m. as a precautionary measure, police said.

The debris was found on the roadway, adjacent to several construction sites. Police have since confirmed that the metal did in fact fall from a nearby work area.

No injuries were reported.

Yonge Street reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic shortly before 8 a.m.
