A maioria de nós dirá que o Dia da Mãe é todos os dias. Em Portugal, foi celebrado no passado domingo (3), mas neste país celebramos no dia 10 de maio.
Com a maioria da população a lutar para experienciar uma ilusão de liberdade nas nossas vidas, a ideia de celebrar aquelas que nos criaram e nos deram vida, dá-nos também um motivo para ter esperança.
Rathus Schoeneberg argumentou “a liberdade é indivisível, e quando um homem é escravizado, todos os restantes não são livres”. Recuperar a nossa liberdade durante e depois da pandemia será uma questão complexa e uma prática que nos consumirá tempo, contudo como indivíduos temos de proteger os nossos direitos, aqueles pelos quais lutámos e morremos.
A Covid-19 tem consagrado aos políticos uma desculpa para aprisionar os nossos pensamentos e para diminuir a nossa competência de viver. Dessa forma, retira-nos a capacidade mais básica de funcionar como as nossas mães pretendiam.
A mãe é a figuração de Deus e Terra. Desde a conceção ao nascimento, as mães criam, confortam e protegem as suas crianças.
O amor de uma mãe dá vida, esperança e força para vivermos com o sentimento de que somos dignos e valorizados. O amor de uma mãe nunca acaba independentemente das circunstâncias e é incondicional porque é um amor sem expectativas atribuídas.
Esta semana, na edição do Milénio Stadium, daremos um foco especial às mães. Para além da minha que irei homenagear neste editorial, destacamos uma mãe especial chamada Jessica Sousa Batista que merece um lugar único pela maternidade da sua filha Eva Batista. A Eva tocou os nossos corações e é por essa razão que este sábado (9), entre as 14h e as 19h na Camões TV, e outros canais, teremos um evento muito especial para angariar fundos que ajudem a financiar uma vacina que lhe salve a vida. Muitas vezes, são esquecidos os pais que cuidam dos filhos. A Jessica incorpora a palavra mãe pelos incríveis cuidados que continua a prestar à Eva e é merecedora de todos os clichés que dizemos sobre as mães.
Sempre me questionei o porquê de uma mulher ter um filho em 1955 em Portugal. Reinava o fascismo e a população empobrecida não tinha condições para criar uma criança. No início deste editorial, a referência à liberdade sugeria a necessidade de proteção deste direito a todo o custo. Talvez ter nascido num mundo miserável e sem voz me tenha ensinado a apreciar a habilidade de excluir o martírio das nossas vidas. Até hoje, não sei como conseguiu cuidar de sete crianças, enterrar duas e educar cinco em condições precárias. Mas ela fê-lo, por isso e muito mais quero agradecer à minha mãe por me manter vivo e me dar uma voz e, finalmente, pela liberdade que é impagável. Obrigado mãe por teres 90 anos e permitires que a sabedoria continue a brilhar em ti. A tua janela para o mundo é pequena, vês o mundo passar, emoldurado por uma janela, sentada na cozinha com os teus pensamentos. Deus não te deixou sozinha nem te permitiu desistir.

It’s Alright Mama
Most of us will say that Mother’s Day is everyday. In Portugal it was celebrated last Sunday (3), but in this country, we celebrate on May 10th.
As most of the population struggle to experience a semblance of freedom in our lives, the thought of celebrating those who created and gave us life provides a reason of hope.
Rathus Schoeneberg argued, “freedom is invisible, and when one man is enslaved, all are not free”. Regaining our freedom during and after this pandemic will be a complex and time-consuming exercise, but as individuals we have to protect our rights that we have fought and died for.
Covid-19 has given numerous politicians the excuse to enslave out thoughts and to shrink our ability to live therefore taking away our most basic ability to function as our mothers intended us to.
Mother is a figuration about God and Earth. From conception to birth, mothers nurture, comfort and protect their children.
A mother’s love provides life, giving hope and strength to go on living feeling worthy and valued. A mother’s love never ends regardless of circumstances and is unconditional because the love has no attributable expectations.
In this week’s Milenio Stadium, mothers will have a special focus. In addition to mine, whom I will honour within this editorial, a special mother named Jessica Sousa Batista deserves a unique place for the mothering of her daughter Eva Batista. Eva has touched our hearts and thus the reason this Saturday (9) between 2pm and 7pm on Camões Tv, and other outlets, a very special fundraiser will be held to raise funds which will help in financing her life saving vaccine. Often the parents who take care of children are overlooked. Jessica embodies the word mother for the incredible continuing care she provides to Eva and is fully deserving of all the truism they say about mothers.
Always wondered why a mother would give birth a child in 1955 in Portugal. Fascism resigned and the population was impoverished without conditions to raise children. In the beginning of this editorial a reference to freedom suggested the necessity of protection of this right at all costs. Perhaps being born in a beggarly world and without voice, it teaches appreciation of the ability to exclude martyrdom from our lives. To this day I still don’t understand how she mothered seven children, buried two and raised five under the most underprivileged of conditions. But she did it and for that and much more I want to thank my mother for keeping me alive and giving me a voice and finally freedom that’s priceless. Thank you mom for being 90 and allowing your wisdom to continue to shine your way. Your window to the world is small as you watch it go by framed by a window as you sit in your kitchen within your own thoughts. God has not allowed you to be lonely and give up.
