Here’s what’s happening at Pride weekend in Toronto

Pride month is reaching a crescendo with its festival weekend just around the corner, and Pride Toronto’s programming and events have something for everyone to look forward to.

Pride month, which takes place annually in June, is dedicated to celebrating and honouring LGBTQ+ people and communities worldwide. This year, the city’s Pride month began with a flag-raising on June 1, when the rainbow flag and trans flags were raised at city hall.

This year, Pride Toronto is also commemorating “30 years of AIDs Activism in Toronto,” the organizers write in their 2018 Pride Guide. The theme of Pride Toronto 2018 is “Action = Life.”

Pride Toronto and other organizers around the city have held a month of arts, culture, and community-building events. The celebrations will culminate in the 38th annual Pride parade taking place Sunday at 2 p.m., starting at the corner of Church St. and Bloor St.

The weekend will feature a variety of other events.

On Friday evening, the 2018 Trans March will begin at 8 p.m., with a rally beforehand at 7 p.m., at the intersection of Church and Hayden Sts.

Friday night also sees the seventh year of BlackOut, a safe space and performance showcase for Black, African, Caribbean and multiracial youth, held by the organization BQY (Black Queer Youth) on the North Stage.
