{"id":94047,"date":"2022-03-25T08:41:15","date_gmt":"2022-03-25T12:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/?p=94047"},"modified":"2022-03-25T08:41:15","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T12:41:15","slug":"toronto-mayor-john-tory-to-seek-3rd-term-in-october-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/blog\/toronto-mayor-john-tory-to-seek-3rd-term-in-october-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Mayor John Tory to seek 3rd term in October election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/22834614-scaled-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-94049\" src=\"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/22834614-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"milenio stadium - john tory - toronto\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/22834614-scaled-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/22834614-scaled-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/22834614-scaled-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/city-government\/council\/office-of-the-mayor\/about-mayor-john-tory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tory<\/a> announced Friday that he intends to seek re-election this fall when registration opens in May.<\/strong><\/p>\n<section id=\"inread-wrapper-id-211\"><\/section>\n<p>&#8220;I am running for Mayor for another term because I believe Toronto needs an experienced leader who will continue to work hard with both the federal and provincial governments to ensure <a href=\"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/category\/local\/gta\/\">Toronto<\/a> stays on track, and continue to work on making Toronto a more livable and more affordable place to live, to work and build a future,&#8221; Tory said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>He said he made the decision to seek re-election after discussing it with his family and &#8220;receiving their blessing and support.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The announcement brings to a close months of speculation about whether he would run for re-election this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Tory was first elected in 2014 with 40 per cent of the vote, replacing former mayor Rob Ford.<\/p>\n<p>He won his second term with more than 60 per cent of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Tory says he&#8217;s running again because he believes Toronto deserves &#8220;an experienced leader&#8221; to steer the city out of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is about protecting our progress and making sure Toronto comes out of this pandemic stronger than ever.
