A woman is dead after a City of Toronto employee lost control of their pickup truck and slammed onto a Scarborough sidewalk Wednesday morning.

Det. Brett Moore told reporters it’s early in the investigation, but police believe the woman who was fatally struck was in her 70s. She has not been identified at this time.

The city employee was taken to hospital to be checked out.

Investigators reported the collision at Lawrence Avenue and Fern Meadows Road just after 10 a.m.

Moore said it appears the truck’s driver lost control and the vehicle careened onto one sidewalk, before going back onto Lawrence Avenue and into oncoming traffic before winding up on the opposite sidewalk where the woman was hit. The truck then kept going before hitting two more parked cars.

It’s unclear what led to that deadly chain of events.
