As part of an effort to ramp up COVID-19 testing in Montreal, six city\u00a0buses will be turned into mobile testing clinics, Radio-Canada has learned.<\/p>\n
Mayor Val\u00e9rie Plante is expected to make the announcement today at 3 p.m., alongside Philippe Schnobb, chair of the\u00a0Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de transport de Montr\u00e9al\u00a0(STM), and the city’s public health director,\u00a0Dr. Myl\u00e8ne Drouin.<\/p>\n The vehicles are intended to speed up mass testing for the novel coronavirus, something the Quebec government has vowed to do across the province starting today.<\/p>\n The buses will be used as mobile clinics that can quickly reach areas experiencing outbreaks, such as specific neighbourhoods, workplaces or schools. They would be able to perform at least 100 tests daily.<\/p>\n Starting this week, the Quebec government says it plans to significantly\u00a0increase the number of tests performed daily<\/u>\u00a0from approximately 5,000 tests per day to more than 14,000.<\/p>\n Quebec’s public health director, Dr. Horacio Arruda, said anyone with symptoms is\u00a0now eligible for testing.<\/p>\n CBC<\/p>\n
