{"id":12963,"date":"2018-06-05T16:53:14","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T20:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/?p=12963"},"modified":"2018-06-05T16:53:14","modified_gmt":"2018-06-05T20:53:14","slug":"advance-voter-turnout-jumps-almost-19-from-last-ontario-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/local\/gta\/advance-voter-turnout-jumps-almost-19-from-last-ontario-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Advance voter turnout jumps almost 19% from last Ontario election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of thousands of Ontario voters aren&#8217;t waiting around to cast their ballot in this year&#8217;s hotly-contested election, according to\u00a0preliminary figures released by Elections Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>About 768,895 of 10.2 million eligible voters cast\u00a0ballots at advance polls between May 26 and June 1,\u00a0Elections Ontario reports.\u00a0That&#8217;s an 18.8 per cent increase from 2014, when an\u00a0estimated 647,261 voters turned up at advance polls.<\/p>\n<p>Advance polls are now closed. But eligible voters who can&#8217;t cast a ballot on June 7 still have the option of voting by\u00a0special ballot at a returning office or through a home visit\u00a0until Wednesday\u00a0at 6\u00a0p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p>Elections Ontario, an independent office of the Ontario legislature that&#8217;s set to spend $126 million to run the 2018 vote, says new technology made advance voting easier this time around.<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;We are very pleased with the positive feedback we have received across the province,&#8221;\u00a0Greg\u00a0Essensa, Ontario&#8217;s chief electoral officer, said in a news\u00a0release.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of thousands of Ontario voters aren&#8217;t waiting around to cast their ballot in this year&#8217;s hotly-contested election, according to\u00a0preliminary figures released by Elections Ontario.
