{"id":12735,"date":"2018-05-28T12:58:04","date_gmt":"2018-05-28T16:58:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/?p=12735"},"modified":"2018-05-28T12:58:04","modified_gmt":"2018-05-28T16:58:04","slug":"toronto-bike-to-work-day-highlights-calls-for-safer-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mileniostadium.com\/local\/gta\/toronto-bike-to-work-day-highlights-calls-for-safer-streets\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Bike to Work Day highlights calls for safer streets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cyclists called for safer streets after taking over Yonge Street this Monday for Bike to Work Day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 cyclists of all ages \u2014 kids riding in cargo bikes included \u2014 took part in the annual ride down Yonge Street to city hall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event kicks off bike month, a celebration of all things cycling in Toronto that will run until the end of June.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mayor John Tory rode at the front of the group on a Bike Share and later addressed the crowd at Nathan Tory also issued a message to drivers: driving in Toronto is different now, he said, and motorists always have to look out for cyclists.<\/p>\n<p>During Tory&#8217;s remarks, a dozen cyclists staged a die-in just steps from the stage.<\/p>\n<p>On May 16, Douglas Crosbie was killed while riding to work in the city&#8217;s east end.
