“O génio é a paciência eterna.”

-Michaelangelo

A new beginning

The cover-up is always worse than the crime. In the wake of John Tory’s resignation due to a fling with a lower ranked employee, a lot is being said about ethics within governments. If we were to review the problems of conduct within any organization, the non-compliance with the rules of governance would be apparent everywhere and by nearly everyone.

Politics is possibly the biggest cauldron where ethical breaches are most prevalent and ignored, even when presented with objective facts of objectionable conduct they play dumb, as if they didn’t know the rules. Just look at the current liberal government who are being depicted as the most corrupt ever but the excuses and pleadings of ignorance always manage to win the day. The departure of John Tory before the end of his mandate has provided a roundtable for many individuals to provide pitiful and poignant opinions on the resignation. Some comments were heartbreaking relating to the saintness infused rhetoric that Mr. Tory enveloped Toronto with. Others are hiding behind silent walls so not to be seen to associate with a man who governed Toronto for eight years so to prevent tainting future aspirations.

As we deal with the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, which forever will change the administration of the world and in the process our lives, and cataclysmic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, Tory’s walk in the snow of oblivion was nothing more than passing wet flatulence. It’s shocking that other politicians came to the defense of an ethically unforgivable sin that burst the balloon of saint Tory.

As previously suggested, ethics and the projection of total integrity never go together in government. The Ontario Conservative leader coming to the defense of Tory speaks more about himself and his levels of ethicism than it does about the indiscretion of John Tory.

Politicians are not born liars but are taught to be liars. They may think that bending or obscuring facts is acceptable to the intellectually uneducated citizen, but they are wrong. Everyone understands right from wrong, but it is the intent of the deception that is important. Mr. Tory’s deception with the people of Toronto may be viewed through a variety of lenses. The bottom line is that he knew it was wrong, kept the dishonesty going for many months or years, has cost the City of Toronto millions of dollars with early elections and disruptions, created an atmosphere of distrust in his office and how can we believe his integrity when he could not even protect his legacy that he worked so hard for.

The city of Toronto will enter a new phase with a new Mayor. The new bunch of cultural warriors who will pander to the masses combined armed with few solutions, will step forward to heal the mental health of this city.

The previous Mayor has left this city in disarray with many of its inhabitants fearful of using the TTC, lack of housing, our streets torn apart, unfinished projects, increased costs and taxation.

The functions of extreme liberalism have not been successful in the city where there have been assumptions that left wing policies would be embraced by all ethnicities forgetting the difference in the cultural and religious engagements of many residents, thus the question of what type of Mayor we need and the vision and capabilities that can be brought to repair a wounded Toronto. Like many, I used to love Toronto, now I only tolerate it. Toronto needs someone that:

- Removes the economic pollution in the city.

- Ends fear and the coddling of welfarism proposed by the left on council.

- End woke politics and serve the people with clarity.

- Handle the affairs of the city thinking of all citizens and don’t trivialize those who disagree.

- Stop nymbism, gridlock, improve housing.

- Complete projects in a timely manner with consideration for the citizens’ finances.

- Fix productivity at the city. Too many workers are not pulling their weight.

- Show passion for the job but remain humble because obsession is destructive.

- Demonstrate commitment and competence to the ideals of people and not your ego.

“Genius is eternal patience”

– Michaelangelo.

Very few have declared that they will run for Mayor. This week Milenio Stadium is endorsing Ana Bailão for Mayor, not because she’s Portuguese-Canadian but I believe she possesses the qualities to take this city forward.

She believed that a Tory third term would not be constructive for the city of Toronto. She was right and maybe she can be again. A hard fight lays ahead and it’s possibly one of the most important elections in the history of Toronto. Ana go, give them hell. Enough sainthood.
