Eros Ramazzotti was at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday March 7th for his only concert in Toronto this year. This was a rescheduled concert from June 6th, 2019, which was postponed due to Eros undergoing a personal illness. Ramazzotti embarked on The Vita Ce N’e World Tour to promote his 2018 studio album of the same name.
His set was approximately 120 minutes, which more than made up for no opening act. Ramazzotti captivated an audience filled with people of all ages. One young fan proudly announced from her seat that it was her birthday. Earlier in the day, she took to Instagram to tell Ramazzotti himself by leaving a comment on his most recent post. That boldness paid off and she received backstage passes for her and her family to meet him before the show. Another fan recalled seeing him back in the 80s at the Bandshell down at the Canadian Exhibition Place. She said this was her fourth Eros concert and he still lives up to the hype from that very first show.
This time was different as Ramazzotti was promoting his new album. Hardcore fans knew the words to his new songs, however most of the audience appeared to be sitting and enjoying his performance. His biggest hits, Cosas De La Vida and Piu bella Cosa, were his encore performances to close out the show. These got everyone standing and singing along to his words.
At 56, Ramazzotti still engages in different theatrics onstage. From lying down on the stage stairs, to walking through the audience at a time when everyone is paranoid about spreading germs, to kicking around a soccer ball on stage, he creates a performance that fits his persona. He also took a few moments during the show to play a video about saving our oceans. He stressed the importance of eliminating plastics and being more conscientious to our marine ecosystems.
Fortunately, Toronto fans got to see the long-awaited performance. Ramazzotti announced this week that due to the ongoing Coronavirus and the challenges faced in Italy, he will be postponing the remainder of his North and South American tour once again.
