Who is the real Doug Ford?

Vince Black

In a random sampling of public opinion taken by Forum Poll, among 923 Ontario voters, half (48%) say they disapprove of Doug Ford as leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives.
One- third (36%) say they approve of his leadership, while one-sixth (16%) say they do not know.
In saying that Mr. Ford only has half of the progressive party that voted for him and the other half still in a tail spin, he is poised to form a majority government in Ontario.

Amongst those decided, if an election were held today, the PCs would secure (44%) of the vote.
The NDP would secure a quarter (27%) and the Liberals would secure a quarter (23%).
Doug Ford’s leadership of the Progressive Conservatives has polarized Ontarians, with half saying they are less likely to vote for the party in the next election. However, four in ten would still vote for Ford’s Conservatives, more than enough to propel Ford into the Premier’s office, with a healthy majority. Despite the positive numbers for the Conservatives under Ford, it seems that Ontarians are not so much accepting Doug Ford and his leadership, as they are rejecting the other alternatives.
When you see Doug Ford most immediately have visions of his brother Rob Ford, who was Mayor of Toronto. But l must say that in knowing both Doug and Rob personally they are two different characters. However, one similar characteristic that they both have is that when one came at them on issues, they would come back at you twice as hard. Their aggressiveness most times would be interpret as bullying you and pushing their agendas to no end.
Doug Ford is a more calculated politician/businessman as opposed to Rob, who would shoot from the hip and tell you his opinion on a dime. Doug on the other hand would be very strategic in how he would come at you on the issues. His background in business will be a big factor in his success in tackling the issues that mean most to Ontarians.

You hear “Is Ontario Broken” and will Ford nation be able to fix it?

I feel that Ford nation has captured a movement in this province that can be compared to what Trump captured in the United States. He is appealing to the common folks what Trump did south of the border with his appeal to middle America.
Ford is speaking about sex education in schools and that parents need to be engaged in the conversation before any further decisions are made. Doctors and nurses need to be consulted on a broken medical system and get their input. The carbon tax, another sensitive issue that needs further analysis and how it truly effects this province. Our hydro rates, Ford has vowed to cut it in half, these are just some of the issues that the new leader has vowed to tackle in these early days. We will follow these issues closely and others and keep you updated as to whether Mr. Ford keeps any of these promises.
Donald Trump and Doug Ford share some similarities and these similar backgrounds should be noted, they both fashion themselves as populists, and they both champion that they are men of the people. Ford aims to harness the same anti-establishment grievances to win this race.
It’s the kind of populism Trump ran on and garnered him large support, despite being born with a silver spoon in his mouth and having never financially struggled for anything. This also is true of Doug Ford, he grew up in a wealthy environment and never really had to struggle for anything. Both Trump and Ford had all the access to the old boys’ club and really never had to make ends meet and worry where their next meal would be coming from.
In the coming month’s we will monitor many of what will be said by all three of the parties with the crowing of the new Premier on June 7, 2018.
Buckle down and let’s take this ride.
