A marijuana parece possuir toda a benevolência, graça, pureza, perspicácia e efeitos calmantes que mais nenhuma droga providencia. Durante vários anos, esta planta tem vindo a ser o tema de discussões intensas, alterações legais e decisões que continuam a surtir em várias partes do mundo. E porquê tanta discórdia no que diz respeito a esta simples planta? Foram atribuídas à marijuana e ao haxixe, as folhas e flores colhidas da canábis para uso de drogas, mais de 1200 gírias. Quer seja um ganzado, um hippie ou um conhecedor, toda a gente parece ter uma opinião, ou uma piada, sobre erva, a alface do diabo, ganja, narcóticos…
Desde a legalização da canábis em 2018, as folhas e flores secas estão, mais do que nunca, na boca do público. Enquanto as pessoas procuram formas de apanhar uma moca, estão a ser inventados comestíveis e receitas gourmet e, normalmente, a mary jane não desilude. Com o stress e outros problemas de saúde mental a atacar o nosso corpo, a canábis parece ser a droga de eleição para aliviar os efeitos intensificados das mudanças da vida. Para muitos, o evangelho de escolha deve-se ao facto que um charro não lhe irá mentir e irá proporcionar a moca necessária para o retirar do marasmo da vida temporariamente, a um custo mais baixo do que o álcool. São muitos os que ainda não experimentaram canábis e consideram a planta como sendo ilícita e algo que eles nunca considerariam consumir. Não está prontamente disponível a informação com os prós e contras desta planta e, nas formulações disponíveis, o sistema político continua apreensivo na promoção dos benefícios e/ou implicações negativas do uso da canábis.
Em Portugal, onde a canábis foi certificada para ser prescrita para uso medicinal, foi removido o estigma contra a canábis. A Health Canada e outras organizações médicas deveriam ter uma abordagem mais proativa na implementação de diretrizes que permitam o uso da planta para fins medicinais e na delineação dos benefícios que os canadianos poderiam obter. A pandemia tem instigado níveis de luta e desafios emocionais, principalmente nas gerações mais jovens. Faz parte da responsabilidade do Governo destacar o consumo adequado de canábis e promover a prevenção da compra ilegal de drogas de rua, sendo que em Ontário são parceiros na distribuição e revenda de marijuana. A venda ilegal de drogas causou um aumento de cinco vezes nas mortes devido a suicídio e overdoses.
À medida que as lojas reabrem, por toda a grande área de Toronto, com todos os tipos de misturas relacionadas com canábis, o mercado negro continua a prosperar. Enquanto o Governo não regular e impor leis referentes à distribuição e venda sem licença, o negócio da canábis neste país enfrentará dificuldades e as drogas de contrabando sobrecarregarão o nosso sistema de saúde. Atualmente estão armazenadas por todo o país mais de um bilião de gramas de erva, representando três anos de fornecimento. O otimismo é baixo no que concerne os comerciantes de canábis obterem um retorno financeiro nos biliões de dólares investidos. A implementação de regulamentos para legitimar a indústria e retirá-la de mãos ilegais pode ser a salvação da indústria legal de canábis.

Marijuana seems to possess all of the benevolence, grace, clarity, insightfulness and calm effects that no other drug provides. This plant has for many years been the subject of intense discussion, legal challenges and decisions which continue in many parts of the world. And why such extreme discord about a simple plant? More than 1200 slang names have been attributed to marijuana and hashish, the dried leaves and flowers harvested from cannabis for drug use. Whether you’re a pothead, stoner, hippie or a connoisseur, everyone seems to have an opinion or joke about weed, devil’s lettuce, dope, ganja, etc…
Since the legalization of cannabis in 2018, dobies are hanging from many lips in public more than ever. Edibles and gourmet recipes are being concocted as people search for ways to get a buzz and mary jane usually doesn’t disappoint. As stress and other mental health issues attack our bodies, cannabis appears to be the drug of choice to relieve the heightened effects of life’s challenges. For most the gospel of choice is that a joint won’t lie to you and each will give you the high needed to temporarily lift you out of the doldrums of life at a cheaper cost than alcohol. Many have not tried cannabis and still consider the plant illicit and something they would never contemplate using. Simplified information regarding the pros and cons about this plant is not readily available and the political establishment remains apprehensive in promoting the beneficial and/or negative implications of cannabis usage in any of the available formulations.
In Portugal where cannabis has been certified to be prescribed for medicinal use, the stigma about cannabis has been removed. Health Canada and other medical organizations should be taking a more proactive approach in the implementation of guidelines to allow the plant to be used for medical purposes and to outline the benefits Canadians could derive from it. The pandemic has instilled levels of struggles and emotional challenges particularly on younger generations. Highlighting proper usage of cannabis and promoting avoidance of the illegal purchase of street drugs is the responsibility of government where in Ontario they are partners in the distribution and retailing of marijuana. Illegal drug sales have caused a fivefold increase in deaths due to suicides and overdoses. As street front stores open across the GTA peddling all types of concoctions related to cannabis, the black market continues to thrive.
As long as governments don’t regulate and enforce the laws regarding unlicensed distribution and sales, the business of cannabis in this country will struggle and the bootleg drugs will overload our health care system. Currently there is over a billion grams of pot stored across the country representing 3 years of supply. There is no market for it due to oversupply and mismanagement of the government supply system. There is little optimism that marketers of cannabis will realize the financial return they expected from billions of dollars invested. The implementation of regulations to legitimize the industry and take it away from illegal hands could be the salvation of the legal cannabis industry.
