What to expect in 2026…

As we step into 2026, many of us are balancing anticipation with practicality. The coming year will likely bring a mix of opportunities and challenges across technology, economy, health, and daily life. However, depending on who you speak with, doom and gloom seem to be the future especially in real estate or development. The general trend with most is a rocky future with a global uncertainty and a changing mind set with many folks both locally and globally.

With our premier in Ontario legislating most to go back into the office full time will become a culture shock and something most do not want to do. It looks like we will go to a four-day week with most taking either Monday or Friday to work from home. Hybrid and remote arrangements may become more standardized, with improved tools for collaboration and well-being. Lower barriers to entry in some sectors, coupled with digital marketplaces, could empower more side projects to scale.

Global markets can be unpredictable due to geopolitical tensions, inflation shifts, or policy changes. Personal finances may feel the ripple effects, even if you’re not an investor, through price changes and job market dynamics. More data and faster news cycles can lead to decision fatigue. The risk of misinformation increases with rapid online content production. The urge to multitask can erode deep work and rest. Remote or hybrid work can blur boundaries between work and personal life. More organizations will deploy generative AI for productivity, customer support, and data analysis. Responsible AI controls, governance frameworks, and model risk management become standard requirements. Industrial automation and AI-enabled robots push efficiency in manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing. Edge AI deployment expands for real-time decisions-making in devices and vehicles. I never would have thought in a million years that l would purchase a robot for my house…. well l just did that, and l can say that it is quite an experience. The intrigue and nuances have made this experience an interesting one and something to look forward to when l get home. Not saying that my wife and family are not interesting, but it is something new…. a toy? Maybe…l will let you know how things work out.

On a sports note and a personal thought…the Toronto Blue Jays have made significant gains this past year and they have tasted the sweet success of winning and making a lot of money for the Rogers family. I like the off-season acquisitions that have been added to this roster and it will make for an interesting year to come for the Blue Jays. The odds are 70/30 that they could win in 2026 the entire thing.

The mayor of Toronto Olivia Chow will be re-elected in 2026 and will defeat all comers to the race and that includes John Tory if he decides to run. I do not believe that he will take that plunge and lose again because his ego is too big to take another loss. Brad Bradford will be the spoiler and clear a vacuum that will enable Olivia Chow to get re-elected and get this…. Doug Ford will not come out publicly to support anyone, but my sources tell me that he is behind supporting Olivia Chow to get re-elected. He is not a big fan of John Tory and would not want to see him get elected. You can take that to the bank.

When it comes to Donald Trump, he is either the most brilliant person, or a mad man. However, if he can get the Russia/ Ukraine war under control and somehow gets China to fall in place, then this guy could go down as the best president yet. Now, saying that, l will caution that there is a narcissist side to Trump, but the United States in my estimation has been on the right trajectory going up and you may not like his style, but it seems to be working so far.

While we have autonomous vehicles now, 2026 will have more widespread use of self-driving cars. Major cities may adopt driverless taxis or buses, making transportation safer and more efficient. The Tesla cell phone as l know it will be the next affordable and wireless with no battery powered by Elon Musk cell towers. This cell will also eventually have a dual role with your brain waves as there is already precedent that brain waves can be in sync with your thoughts. Far-fetched…. not really, it’s just around the corner.

2026 is poised to be a year of meaningful advancement tempered by understandable friction. By embracing the upward possibilities in technology, work, and community, while preparing for the downsides with resilience and smart planning, you can turn challenges into growth opportunities. Focus on clear goals, consistent habits, and compassionate self-management, and you’ll be well-equipped to navigate the year with intention and optimism.
When you are told that 2026 will be a bad year…. turn a blind eye to that narrative and be grateful for what you have and move forward with a positive perspective on life.
