The psychology of…. HOPE

The psychology of HOPE-canada-mileniostadium

The dictionary definition of hope is “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen”.

Over the past eight months or so we have in one way or another tried to hope for something and we all deep down have used this expression of thought on many occasions. Whether we have hoped for something large or something small, whether it was a miracle or just a plain thought that you may have wished for…these moments of HOPE have always been there and will always creep into your psyche.

HOPE today is especially important and should be used to exercise your mind set to try and get you through a day, a week, a month or the entire year, hope needs to be there in one form or another.

Let me explain… Your thoughts will become actions.

Hope, it’s a simple word and yet can mean so much to anyone going through a difficult time. It can mean the difference between hanging on and giving up. It can mean a tiny smile in the face of a devastating diagnosis. It’s one word with no true definition – hope can mean anything you want it to.

The Bible describes what hope means and says what it is there for. God’s followers are hoping for God’s will be done on earth as in heaven. Or, said another way, the Christian is hoping for the fruition of what has already begun, the full arrival of God’s Kingdom. We pin our hopes on the God of that Kingdom. The apostle Paul wrote in several places about what hope leads to or makes…patience, courage, and joy. It makes us stable, and we are saved on hope. It is one of the three things which last…faith, hope, and love.

It is often said how we all need hope to survive, how it is what dreams feed on, how it is what gets us past the tough times when life is at its worst. So, some people make soft statements about it, or create false hope or even deceptions, just to keep going. Hope can also be confusing, where it creates a false hope and, in many cases, when something gets bad, hope is thrown out the door. Never throw it away, because the alternative is nothing, a blank canvas, a black hoke or just falling into a depression. Say no to those thoughts.

Hope can be used in many ways…it can be interpreted in a biblical way, or it can be used in a common seneschal way where common sense and hope are very important to working together. The simple form of hope can work on your psyche if you don’t practice this simple psychological form of HOPE.

“Hope is a gift of the spirit”

During this pandemic l have been reflecting on my life and how quickly things can change and within seconds you can find yourself in a state where we are in unfamiliar territory.

There is no past experience, no manuals, no one to tell you what to do or what will be coming around the corner. The so-called politicians, and medical experts are all telling us what to do or what to expect, where they are all full of hot smoke, because none of them know what’s coming.

These drastic times can play very heavily on our psyche and our will to continue for ourselves and for those we love.  This reminds me of that old expression.

“Have you ever had your Hopes crushed?” The answer is a resounding yes…and the question became.

“What did it do to you?”

In my case l kept drawing on my hope as something that got me through some unbearable times in my life. Yes, my mind kept playing games on my overall feelings and in some cases, l knew somehow that l was in a dark place where l was trying to get out of. But for me my saving grace was HOPE…Hope in something, where my psychological deminer kept me alive and productive.

These times gave me a new HOPE, it restored my conviction and gave me a new hope in life when l needed it. This simple word…HOPE means so much to so many people in different terms and sizes. But we tend to forget that when all else fails around us, give hope a consideration because it will not fail you.

Thus, the phycology of hope where it can play with your mind and in some cases turn you to the bad side of life when you should be focusing on what hope can do for you.

We all need that edge in life and l am a firm believer in the depth of where hope can take you. As l have stated and it is worth repeating that the state of hope can be used for something small or something large, regardless of what your needs are grab onto hope and don’t let anything or anyone change your mind.

Hope is not a passive exercise in wishing, but an active approach to life, arising when there is something we want when we’ve got a clear goal in mind. And though it may be tough going, we’ll develop a plan to get us closer to where we want to go.

Hope comes in different form and yes it can play with your mind at times, but in todays times and challenges, you have nothing to lose but to give HOPE a chance.
