Police investigating whether passenger at Yonge/Bloor station was pushed and killed

Toronto police are investigating whether a man struck and killed by a train at Yonge/Bloor subway station Monday morning was pushed.

The victim, who was in his early 20s, was on the eastbound platform and about to get on to the oncoming train when he was struck, homicide Det. Rob North said at a news conference.

Police are looking into whether the victim was pushed or stumbled.

Police arrested a man in his 40s but haven’t charged him. He had left the station but was arrested nearby, North said.

It was not relatively busy on the platform at the time, TTC spokesperson Brad Ross.

Police said they are combing over surveillance video and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened at around 10:15 a.m., shutting down Line 2 for hours. Trains are still bypassing Yonge station.

Bloor station on Line 1 is operating.
