Male, 74, dead and another is in custody following ‘altercation’ in Oakville

A 74-year-old man is dead and a 40-year-old man is in custody following an “altercation” in Oakville Sunday night.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Halton Regional Police responded to a 911 call from an apartment on the 20th floor of a building at 2220 Marine Drive. The caller reported an “altercation” between two males, Const. Steve Elms told reporters at the scene.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found the victim with “obvious signs of trauma,” Elms said, but he would not elaborate on the nature of the man’s injuries. The 74-year-old was pronounced dead, and police took the 40-year-old into custody, he said.

Elms would not speak to the relationship between the accused and the victim. A Halton Regional Police press release issued early Monday said the two “were known to one another.”

Investigators are not looking for any other suspects.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Milton later Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Halton police tip line at 905-825-4776 or Crime Stoppers.
