Heavy rainfall leaves streets flooded in parts of the GTA, police say

Heavy rainfall for most of the day Sunday into Sunday night has caused flooding in several areas, Toronto police say.

Environment Canada had warned rainfall amounts of 20 mm to 40 mm are possible.

Streets flooded

Toronto police reported heavy flooding in the following areas.

  • Dawes Road
  • Massey Creek
  •  Martin Grove Road
  • Kingston Road
  • Chine Drive

Police are urging drivers to avoid these areas and to use alternate routes.

Avoid bodies of water

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority said bodies of water within the GTA should be avoided as the slippery and unstable conditions are considered hazardous.

“The combination of slippery and unstable banks could create hazardous conditions close to any river, stream or other water bodies. All rivers and streams within the GTA should be considered hazardous.”

TRCA also encourages parents to alert children under their care of these dangers and supervise their activities.

A low pressure system that is moving over the Toronto area is bringing the precipitation.

Environment Canada says the rain should end overnight or Monday morning.
