Driver hits pedestrian, causes ‘extensive’ damage to drugstore
A male driver was arrested early Tuesday morning after striking a pedestrian and a Shoppers Drug Mart in downtown Toronto.
Toronto police told CBC Toronto that the man’s vehicle hit several cars before hitting the drugstore at Yonge and College streets, which sustained “extensive” damage.
The driver also hit a 50-year-old male pedestrian and continued on before being stopped and taken into custody.
Paramedics and police say the pedestrian was struck near Bay and Gerrard Streets and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“The person received a head injury,” said Sgt. Brett Moore of the Toronto police.
Moore said that investigators aren’t clear on the chain of events and are looking for witnesses to any of the collisions to get in touch.
He said the driver, who is 30 years old, is facing charges of dangerous driving, impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
