Princípios Religiosos – Promovem a paz ou a violência

Crescendo como católico, desde o momento em que tive idade suficiente para ser introduzido à religião até hoje, a minha perspetiva sobre as influências da religião na minha vida mudou e não para melhor. A educação, na maioria das vezes, deveria significar uma melhor compreensão de um mundo onde a influência da religião deveria fortalecer as nossas mentes, mas frequentemente, em vez disso, questiona a sua importância na nossa vida. Recentemente, uma pessoa apresentou uma perspetiva que sugere que quanto mais ouvimos as atitudes da vida, mais estúpidos nos tornamos.

A religião parece ter esse efeito, à medida que o questionamento intensivo dos seus dogmas e objetivos teóricos se torna evidente nas guerras teológicas que estão a ser travadas, frequentemente justificando a violência perpetrada na sociedade. Uma visão geral das religiões mundiais mostra que existem 6 religiões principais, além de muitos outros grupos sub-religiosos associados, mas não ligados aos grupos principais. A diversidade de crenças religiosas em todo o mundo é vasta, com milhares de religiões, seitas e sistemas de crenças. As seis principais religiões moldaram paisagens culturais, sociais e políticas ao longo da história.

O Cristianismo é a maior religião, com 2,3 mil milhões de seguidores, representando 29% da população global, seguido pelo Islão, com 347 milhões, sendo a denominação com crescimento mais rápido devido a fatores demográficos e não à conversão. As outras incluem o Hinduísmo, o Budismo, o Judaísmo e o Sikhismo. Todas as religiões têm, no centro dos seus ensinamentos, a prática da não violência, mas esses ensinamentos podem ser mal interpretados ou manipulados para justificar a violência.

Temos de distinguir os ensinamentos centrais de uma religião e as ações de grupos que escolhem interpretações que se alinham com a religião cultural em vez da prática consciente dos ensinamentos. A interpretação histórica, cultural e sociopolítica é muitas vezes a base da paz ou da guerra baseada na fé por vários grupos. A história de todas as religiões baseia-se na violência e em interpretações espirituais de um Deus, que, em essência, são usadas para justificar a criminalidade de rituais e práticas religiosas. As interpretações das palavras de Deus ao longo dos anos ao criar a Bíblia, o Corão e outros manuscritos que descrevem a moral pela qual deveríamos viver, fornecem muitas contradições e interpretações que continuarão a criar conflitos para sempre.

Num mundo utópico, todas as religiões seriam um paraíso de alegria e contos de fadas, onde todos se dariam bem, mas estamos a lidar com más interpretações e extremismo no cerne das palavras escritas de Deus.

Se separarmos 3 religiões hoje, que estão no centro de conflitos e guerras, Islão, Cristianismo e Judaísmo, parecem comandar o conceito de que o conflito, em vez da paz, é o método para alcançar o céu. Não nos iludamos ignorando a violência e o ódio baseados na religião atualmente.

Embora religiões como o Islão possam ser pacíficas no seu núcleo, o mundo deve preparar-se para uma guerra total de muçulmanos radicais baseada em interpretações culturais que exigem a eliminação de todas as outras religiões e dos seus praticantes. No meio destas guerras estão os ateus, que acreditam que os escritos dos profetas são pura ficção, que não devem ser confiados e que são a causa da atual violência política mundial porque a religião se entrelaçou com agendas políticas. Há uma falência espiritual no mundo hoje, e a ligação com algo superior é um desafio perante as práticas de várias religiões. 

Enquanto o Cristianismo continua obcecado com o pecado, o Islão continua a propagar os ensinamentos da violência doméstica e a ausência de direitos para mais de cinquenta por cento da população muçulmana. O Cristianismo será sempre uma fortaleza contra o Islão, então como é que poderemos alguma vez ter paz? O Cristianismo é obcecado com o amor e professa que a redenção e o renascimento são o caminho para a realização pessoal. Todos os dias 25 de dezembro há um renascimento, mas existe redenção? O Islão é sobre medo, poder e fogo do inferno, que é onde se pertence e de onde nunca se pode sair.

Já não podemos selecionar apenas o que nos convém.

Temos de estar conscientes das consequências de más interpretações da religião que continuarão a ser um fator contributivo para o colapso da sociedade.

Portanto, sim, a religião é violenta.

Religious Tenets – Promoting Peace or Violence

Growing up a catholic, from the time of being old enough to be introduced to religion to today, my perspective about the influences of religion in my life has changed and not for the better. Education, in most instances, should mean better understanding of a world where the influence of religion should empower our minds, but often instead questions its importance imparted in our lives. 

Recently, a person provided a perspective which suggests that the more we listen to life’s attitudes, the more stupid we become. Religion seems to have that effect as intensive questioning of its dogmas and theoretical objectives become apparent in the theological wars being fought, often justifying violence being perpetrated on society. An overview of worlds religions shows that there are 6 principal religions plus many other sub-religious groups associated but not connected to the main groups. The diversity of religious beliefs across the globe is vast with thousands of religions, sects and belief systems. The six major religions have shaped cultural, social and political landscapes throughout history.

Christianity is the largest religion with 2.3 billion followers, accounting for 29% of the global population, followed by Islam with 347 million and is the fastest growing denomination due to demographic factors rather than conversion. The others include Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and Sikhism. All religions have at the heart of their teaching, the practice of non-violence but their teachings can be misinterpreted or manipulated to justify violence. We have to distinguish the core teachings of a religion and the actions of groups who choose interpretations that align with cultural religion rather than conscious practice of the teachings. The interpretation of historical, cultural and socio-political interpretations is often the base of peaceful or faith-based warfare by various groups. The history of all religions is based on violence and spiritual interpretations of one God, which in essence who was used to justify the criminality of rituals and religious practices.

Interpretations of God’s words over the years when creating the Bible, Quran and other manuscripts outlining the morality by which we should live, provide many contradictions and interpretations which will continue to create conflicts forever. In a utopian world, all religions would be a wonderland of bliss and fairy tales where everyone would get along, but we are dealing with misinterpretations and extremism at the core of the written God’s words. If we separate 3 religions today, which are at the core of conflicts and wars, Islam, Christianity and Judaism, appear to command the concept that conflict instead of peace is the method to achieve a means to go to heaven. Let’s not fool ourselves by ignoring the violence and hatred based on religion today. While religions like Islam may be peaceful at its core, the world best prepare for an all-out war from radical Muslims based on cultural interpretations, which call for the elimination of all other religions and its practitioners. In the middle of these wars there are the Atheists who believe that the writings of the prophets are pure fiction not to be trusted and are the cause of the current world political violence because religion has intertwined with political agendas.

There is a spiritual bankruptcy in the world today and the connection with something higher is a challenge in view of the practices of various religions. While Christianity continues to be obsessed with sin, Islam continues to propagate the teachings of domestic violence and no rights for over fifty percent of the Muslim world population. Christianity will always be a fortress against Islam, so how can we ever have peace?

Christianity is obsessed with love and professes that redemption and rebirth is the way to self-fulfillment. Every December 25th, there’s a rebirth but is there a redemption? Islam is about fear, power and hellfire which is you where you belong and you can never leave.

We can no longer cherry-pick. We have to be aware of the consequences that poor interpretations of religion which will continue to be a contributory factor for the breakdown of society. So yes, religion is violent.
