A revista Time nomeou Greta Thunberg como pessoa do ano. Ela veio do nada para despertar questões que muitas vezes são faladas, mas não abraçadas com a seriedade que merecem. Embora concorde com a escolha, que destacou o estado da deterioração ambiental, há a preocupação de que ela estará a ser usada por forças mais elevadas e que as mensagens não sejam suas. Ainda assim, é importante lembrar que a mensagem geral deve ser adotada se o mundo quiser normalizar a longo prazo.
O presidente Donald Trump continuou a liderar o ciclo de notícias em todo o mundo. As suas mensagens desequilibradas têm sido controversas, causando confusão e constrangimento para os Estados Unidos. O resultado de três anos de ser um “não presidente” foi enfrentar um processo de impeachment, que será a humilhação final. A sua resiliência e capacidade de manter o apoio de uma grande percentagem do povo é, no entanto, motivo de admiração e faz-nos perguntar em que estado se encontra a política em todo o mundo. Não há mais honra na política.
Em Toronto tem sido o ano da arma. Enquanto o número de mortes baixou, os tiroteios atingiram um nível recorde, sem quaisquer sinais de que vão diminuir, e as autoridades parecem não ter respostas.
A política no Canadá, na Inglaterra e noutros países está num estado líquido. No Canadá, a última eleição federal mostrou a incapacidade dos líderes para se conectarem com os eleitores, resultando num governo minoritário liderado por um primeiro-ministro fraco que vai fazer o seu caminho num murmúrio até à próxima eleição.
Na Inglaterra, Boris Johnson ganhou uma maioria e o Brexit vai prosseguir, o que causará instabilidade em todo o continente europeu.
Guerras económicas e tarifárias entre países, juntamente com acusações de interferências eleitorais, estão a causar incerteza em populações de todo o mundo.
Refugiados, guerras, tratamento genocida de populações, secas, etc. são a vanguarda da instabilidade de muitas áreas e podem causar o colapso da sociedade como a conhecemos.
Estas são algumas das coisas que dominaram 2019, na minha opinião. A esperança é que a sociedade abrace a cura necessária, identificando as causas e prescrevendo os devidos remédios.

Year in Review
Time Magazine has named Greta Thunberg person of the year. She came out of nowhere to awaken issues that are often spoken about but not embraced with the seriousness it deserves. While I agree with the choice, which highlighted the stages of environmental deterioration, there is a concern that she is being used by higher forces and the messaging is not her own. Still, it is important to remember that the overall message is to be adopted if the world is to normalize in the long run.
President Donald Trump continued to lead the news cycle throughout the world. His unhinged messages have been controversial causing confusion and embarrassment to the United States. The result of three years of being unpresidential has been to face impeachment proceeding which will be the ultimate humiliation. His resiliency and ability to retain support of a large percentage of the people is to be admired and makes you wonder about the status of politics throughout the world. There is no longer any honour in politics.
ln Toronto it has been the year of the gun. While killings are down, shootings have reached a record level without any signs that they will diminish, and authorities appear to have no answers.
Politics in Canada, England and other countries are in a liquid state. ln Canada the last Federal Election showed the inability of leaders to connect with the voters resulting in a Minority Government led by a weak Prime Minister who will mumble his way until the next election.
ln England, Boris Johnson has won a Majority and Brexit will proceed, which will cause instability throughout the European continent.
Economic and tariff wars between countries together with accusations of election interferences are causing uncertainty in populations all over the world.
Refugees, wars, genocidal treatment of populations, droughts, etc. are the forefront of instability of many areas and could cause the collapse of society as we know it.
These are some of the things that dominated 2019 for me. The hope is that society embraces the healing necessary by identifying the causes and implements remedies.
