This week, Luso-Canadian Brittney “Brit Brat” Dos Santos was named 2017 Junior Female Athlete of the Year by Ultimate Canada the national governing body for the sport of Ultimate in Canada. Ultimate, which was originally known as Ultimate Frisbee, is a non-contact team sport played by players with a flying disc (Frisbee).
This past summer, 18 year old Dos Santos dominated the junior field and has the medals to prove it. She helped lead her club team, TORO, of the Toronto Elites program to a first-place victory at the Ontario Championships in July and a silver finish at the Canadian Ultimate Championships (CUC) where she finished 5th overall in statistics. In her first year at the University of Toronto this past fall, Dos Santos joined her older sister playing for Tula and had an immediate impact on the team. At the Canadian University Ultimate Championships she played almost every point of the final as TULA battled hard to finish with a silver medal.
While not playing, Dos Santos has spent her time over the last couple years helping coach U14 clinics with the Toronto Ultimate Club, as well as helping coach her high school’s ultimate team in 2016-2017.
Look out for Dos Santos in the next few years She has already been invited to practice with the Toronto 6ixers (Toronto’s Elite Women Ultimate Touring Team) and there is no doubt she will be suiting up on the field for them soon.
